Abstract
A method of demonstrating fetal ossification, whereby the tiniest bones may be studied in their relation to the rest of the skeleton without destroying the specimen, is descr. In general the method is that devised by Schultze for clearing the soft tissues with KOH. The skeletal system is then stained by immersion of the specimen in a 0.1% alkalinized aq. soln. of alizarin red S. The dye is removed from the soft parts by decolorization in alc.-glycerin baths. Details are given for the prep. of the fresh fetus, fixation in alc. or formalin, clearing, staining, decolorizing, mounting and preservation. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
