Abstract
Deuteron properties have been calculated in the framework of the constituent quark model using a quark-quark interaction which incorporates σ and π chiral mesons besides the one-gluon exchange between quarks. This interaction is able to describe simultaneously the nucleon-nucleon phase shifts. In contrast with earlier calculations, in which equivalent meson potentials between nucleons have been used, this description includes only interactions between quarks. Keywords
