Abstract
Changes in ostracode and foraminiferal populations in a transgressive Holocene sequence at Point Waylen, Swan River Estuary, are documented. On the basis of these changes and from consideration of modern ecological data, sedimentology and radiocarbon ages, a history of variation in the hydrologic regime of the Estuary is proposed for the interval 6,000–4,000 yr B.P. Implications for regional climate are considered. A change towards increased precipitation, faunal impoverishment and a regression of about 1 m are indicated subsequent to 4,000 yr B.P.Keywords
