Oral or Written Language: the Consequences for Cognitive Development in Africa, the United States and England

Abstract
The distinction between speaking an oral language and speaking a written language is applied to different cultural groups in the United States and Africa. It is shown that these two patterns of language use systematically related to different educational methods and to different courses of cognitive development.Keywords
