A problem of compliance

Abstract
Working within a unit for the elderly I am aware of the contributory nature of non- compliance with medication regimens to hospital admission, or re-admission. Deviation from prescribed drug treatment can be monitored objectively by pill counting when follow-up consultations are made or by interviewing techniques. This method can determine which patients do not understand the regimen, but not those who may be non-compliant but not admit to it (1).
