Abstract
Modified Lo Surdo tube for observing the Stark effect.—By placing the tube with its axis perpendicular to the slit and using the cross-section of the cathode afflux where the field is a maximum, separate and parallel components were obtained. Pitting of the aluminum cathode, however, causes a gradual shifting of the field and consequent blurring of the components with exposures of several hours, and this limits the usefulness of the method at present.
