Abstract
Serum hexosamine levels increase in many unrelated acute and chronic diseases. An increase in the excretion of hexosamine in urine is shown following surgical operation and an acute attack of gout. ACTH or cortisone lower chronically elevated levels of hexosamine in serum, but have no effect when serum and urine levels are normal before treatment. Keywords
