Abstract
In Victoria, tholeiitic basalts and subvolcanic dolerites and gabbros in the Heatheote and Mount Wellington Greenstone Belts occur stratigraphically above boninites, and in the latter belt contain interbedded arc-derived andesitic detritus. Intrusive rocks form concordant, sill-like bodies up to 1 km thick which are often strongly differentiated, chemically and mineralogically. The volcanic section in both greenstone belts, between 1000 and 1500m thick, is dominated by aphyric or sparsely augitephyric tholeiites which trend toward ferrotholeiite compositions and are comagmatic with underlying intrusives. Keywords
