Abstract
A numerical study is made on the localization of edge states in quantum wires in high magnetic fields. The edge states become extended for wide wires in strong magnetic fields if their energy is away from the spectral density of states of broadened ‘‘bulk’’ Landau levels. When they are degenerate with the bulk Landau levels, they are strongly mixed and localized. Their inverse localization length decreases with increasing width and vanishes for infinitely wide wires. Calculations are extended to the case of boundary roughness scattering. This publication has 87 references indexed in Scilit:
