Magnetic properties of some titanium(III) complexes

Abstract
The magnetic susceptibilities of ten titanium(III) complexes have been measured over the temperature range 80–300°K. The data are compared with the theory for a 2T2g ground term perturbed by spin–orbit coupling, a low-symmetry ligand field component, and an orbital reduction factor. Observed splittings of the ground term are estimated to lie in the range 400–600 cm.–1. The pentaco-ordinate species TiBr3,2NMe3 has also been studied. The compounds TiCl3,L (L = dioxan or thioxan) show magnetic interaction between neighbouring titanium ions.
