Abstract
Atropine (1–10 μg ml) produced an inotropic effect in the smooth muscle of the guinea-pig isolated ureter. This appeared to be caused by an increase in the safety factor for conduction in this muscle. Whether the effect of atropine is exerted directly on the muscle fibres or via intramural nerves is discussed. Keywords
