CONTROLLED PARALYSIS OF SKELETAL MUSCLE

Abstract
The relaxant effects of d-tubocurarine chloride, decamethonium and succinylcholine, administered intraven. were studied on the sciatic nerve-gastrocnemius prepn. in lightly anesthetized cats and dogs. In contrast to d-tubocurarine and decamethonium, there was little evidence of cumulative action with succinylcholine. With paralyzing doses of the latter the duration of myoneural blockade was directly related to the dose. Using succinylcholine as a continuous intraven. drip, the degree of myoneural block could be controlled and varied at will.
