Anaerobic Plates

Abstract
The use of poured or streaked cultures on plates of specimens containing or suspected to contain anaerobes, with any appropriate culture medium and with the technical simplicity pertinent to the handling of aerobes, may be accomplished by pushing into the inoculated medium the edge of the bottom of a 75-mm. Petri dish containing nutrient agar streaked with Serratia marcescens. This traps a little air between the 2 layers of agar; but S. marcescens quickly absorbs the O from this. The small plate is added after the large plate is inoculated and is removed before the culture on the large plate is used.
