Comparative Study of Spreads and Sections of Bone Marrow

Abstract
Material is presented to indicate the relative merits of sections and spreads of bone marrow for the diagnosis of various diseases. Sections of bone marrow frequently reveal significant findings that are not observed in spreads. On the other hand, spreads are preferred for the observation of fine morphologic derangements that are characteristic of leukemic cells. A simple technic is described for the simultaneous preparation of spreads and sections of material aspirated from the marrow cavity. A plea is made for the routine study of simultaneously prepared spreads and sections of bone marrow.
