Abstract
The biochemical effects of ammonia pollution on different tissues of Salmo gairdneri are described. Results show that in fish the ammonia toxicity mechanism is very similar to the one proposed for mammals. Moreover, many biochemical parameters are altered in trout exposed to a concentration (20 μgN/1 un‐jonized ammonia) approaching the current maximum acceptable toxicant concentration for fish. Evidence is put forward for a revision of water quality criteria for salmonid fish. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
