COMPARISONS OF TWO MEDIA PROPOSED FOR THE ISOLATION OF BACTERIA FROM THE RUMEN

Abstract
The effect of the com-position of the medium divorced from other procedural difference was evaluated as a factor in determining the relative merits of 2 procedures proposed for the isolation of rumen organisms. The inorganic salts-rumen fluid-sugar-cellulose medium was superior to the highly organic medium with respect to (a) total counts, (b) cellulolytic counts, (c) diversity of cellulolytic morphotypes recovered, and (d) ability to support growth of cellulolytic isolates from the other medium.
