Abstract
SUMMARY Two macroscopically indistinguishable, noninterbreeding populations of edible oyster mushrooms were studied. These were determined to be Pleurotos ostreatus which was found only on Populus tremuloides and had a cream-colored spore print, slightly larger basidiospores, and a growth rate on nutrient agar about half that of the other population, P. sapidus. The latter species had a lilac spore print and a wide host range of angiosperm trees. Keywords
