Abstract
The elastic constants of single crystal Tb-50% Ho have been measured from 4.2–300 K, convering the three magnetic phases of the material. The elastic behaviour of the alloy is very similar to that previously reported for Dy. In the ferromagnetic phase the acoustic base plane modes, associated with C11 and C66, suffer very high attenuation and this is attributed to magnetic domain effects. Keywords
