Quantitative Determination of Some Constituent Lipids in Human Dentin

Abstract
Sound and EDTA decalcified human dentin samples were extracted with diethyl-ether, ethanol, chloroform and methanol. The lipid extracts were separated into 6 fractions by silicic-acid columns and quantitated colorimetrically. Decalcified dentin gave higher lipid yields than non-decalcified dentin. Average values of lipid components expressed in mg/100 g dentin (7 samples of sound dentin) (6 samples of EDTA decalcified dentin) are: total lipid extract (40.8) (176.6); cholesterolesters (2.89) (4.14); free cholesterol (3.42) (6.53); triglycerides (1.59) (1.61); diglycerides (0.75) (1.15); monoglycerides (0.45) (0.79); phospholipids (2.04) (4.94). The presence of lipid materials not quantitated (fatty-acids) and/or contaminants is indicated.
