A Simple Method for the Preparation of Potent Chicken Anti-Rous Sarcoma Virus Serum

Abstract
A method is described for the immunization of chickens with either formalin or heat-killed Rous sarcoma virus incorporated in Freund's complete adjuvant. Serums from immunized birds were titrated for neutralizing antibody in chick embryos prior to and after a subsequent injection of viable virus. More than half the birds, all of which had a high antibody content after vaccination, survived the challenge inoculation, and a high concentration of antibody persisted up to a year.
