Abstract
Selocide affords an efficient control for the Pacific mite, Tetranychus pacificus, and the European red mite, Paratetranychus pilosus, on apples. When properly used it causes no injury to fruit or trees. Soils in the Wenatchee-Okanogan Valley are high in Se content, but apples do not take Se from the soil. The amount of Se added by a single application is negligible. Apples from an orchard sprayed with Selocide contained no more Se than apples from orchards which had never been sprayed with the material. Washing is unnecessary. Apples contain about the same amount of Se as California citrus fruits and grapes. Selocide is compatible with cryolite, nicotine and pyrethrum but not with Pb arsenate, although it can be used in with the latter in a spraying program under some conditions. The importance of the red mites and their seasonal histories are discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
