Abstract
The toxic effects of daunorubicin with specific reference to acute, subacute, and long-term studies in animals are reviewed, and its clinical toxicity is considered. We emphasize the importance of hematologic toxicity and infections when treating with daunorubicin. A summary of the work done on detoxifying activities of certain compounds is presented, and the activities that increase the toxic effects of daunorubicin are discussed. Finally, the immunosuppressive, mutagenic, teratogenic, and carcinogenic activities of daunorubicin are mentioned.
