Notes. Reactions of (NSCl)3 with Lewis acids and sulphur: a convenient preparation of [S2N][SbCl6]

Abstract
Reaction of (NSCl)3 with SbCl5 in thionyl chloride or methylene chloride, in molar ratio 1:3, followed by the addition of three equivalents of elemental sulphur produces [S2N][SbCl6], [S3N2Cl][SbCl6], and [NS2Cl2][SbCl6]; the adduct S4N4·SbCl5, was also produced in methylene chloride. The products can be separated by solvent extraction; the overall yield of [S2N][SbCl6] is 35%. A similar reaction in methylene chloride using FeCl3 instead of SbCl5 produced [S6N4][FeCl4]2.
