Brazil is a country with many contrasts. This can help the understanding of environmental factors influencing the incidence of different cancers. The standard treatment and results achieved in certain areas of the country are not encountered in others. The establishment of national cooperative groups has helped the improvement. The subspecialty has been recognized and training programs are available. Many scientific achievements have been developed and are described. Keywords
