Abstract
In this paper we perform a relativistic analysis of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole hyperfine interaction in the 6p7sconfiguration of the singly ionized Bi spectrum. Explicit expressions for the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interaction constants for a generalnsn'lconfiguration are presented, including the effects of intermediate coupling. Hyperfine integrals calculated with the Optimized Hartree-Fock-Slater (OHFS) and the Hartree-Fock (HF) wavefunctions have been used for the evaluation of the magnetic dipole interaction constants and the quadrupole moment. As our final results we obtain the average value for the quadrupole moment from our calculations (Sternheimer uncorrected) asQ= -0.40 b, which we compare with previous calculations of the quadrupole moment from hfs constants in the ground configuration of Bi.Keywords
