Spin-Dependent Transport Properties of SnTe-MnTe Systems

Abstract
Resistivity and Hall effect have been studied in monocrystalline samples of ferromagnetic semiconducting alloys Sn 1− x Mn x Te , with 0 < x < 15 at. %, at low temperature. Contrary to a previous claim, these materials exhibit a resistance maximum around the magnetic ordering point; the peak position varies with Mn concentration x as does the magnetic ordering point itself. This maximum, due to critical scattering, is suppressed by application of a moderate magnetic field. From these data, we obtain an estimate of the s‐d like exchange coupling constant. Hall resistivity curves show an ordinary and an anomalous10 contribution. The anomalous Hall resistivity, ascribed to the skew scattering of spin‐polarized current carriers, is compared with a theoretical estimate.
