Abstract
In this study, the performance of three-fluid, crossflow heat exchangers is determined and presented graphically in terms of the temperature effectiveness of two of the fluids. The effectiveness is determined as a function of heat exchanger size for sets of fixed operating conditions. The introduction of nondimensional operating variables reduces the volume of data required to represent a practical range of operating conditions. The number of boundary conditions for the temperatures is reduced from three to one by the introduction of a nondimensional inlet temperature parameter. Effectiveness factors are determined for a wide range of operating parameters for single-pass, three-fluid heat exchangers. Performance of multipass three-fluid heat exchangers for both cocurrent and countercurrent flow is studied for selected operating conditions. Keywords
