Abstract
Using the Verneuil technique, the authors have grown large single crystals of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/:Ti/sup 3+/ having concentrations up to 0.15%. Laser action was observed in this material, tunable over the range 700-810 nm. Losses in the 800-nm region are less than 0.03 cm/sup -1/ (below the detection limit in the measurements). Keywords
