Ultrasonic techniques for measuring intracranial pulsations

Abstract
During routine echoencephalography, pulsations of certain echoes as observed on an oscilloscope have been empirically of clinical value in detecting vascular anomalies and raised intracranial pressure. They have also been observed in severe headache and hypertension. A method is described which uses a pressure cuff for transducer application to reduce the effects of some extracranial factors. Extracranial and intracranial factors influencing these pulsations are discussed.
