Abstract
To the Editor: Austria was among the countries with the highest amounts of radioactive materials deposited after the Chernobyl accident on April 26. Doses of radioactivity received through ingestion involve mainly 131I, 134Cs, and 137Cs. Although the hazards from ingesting contaminated foods such as milk are almost certainly exceedingly small for adults, there may be some hazard for fetuses and rapidly growing infants. Therefore, we have carefully monitored 131I, 134Cs, and 137Cs — the radioisotopes of greatest concern — in milk since April 28, 1986.Using a sodium iodide scintillation detector, we analyzed 319 samples of cow's milk delivered to . . .Keywords
