An unusual ultrasound appearance of a hydatidiform mole

Abstract
The typical ultrasound appearance of a human hydatidiform mole is of a uterus filled with a diffuse formless echo pattern (snowstorm), which disappears as the sound intensity is reduced. The multiple echoes arise from the myriad of fluid-filled vesicles within the uterus. It is not uncommon to find small clear spaces within this typical pattern due to the presence of an unexpelled blood clot. In retrospect the clue to the diagnosis is the conspicuous thickening and slight irregularly of the inner wall of the sac. The central lucency was probably due to the large retained blood clot.
