Abstract
Medical teaching is somewhat more complex now than it used to be, especially if one accepts that it should be for the benefit of the learner and not only for the satisfaction of the teacher. Twelve functions which the medical teacher should assume are described. Teachers should feel satisfied if they fulfil only a few of these tasks, because the present educational environment does not greatly help them along this road. Keywords
