Abstract
The incorporation of a variety of amino acids into the proteins of plant homogenates has been demonstrated. Incorporation rates vary according to the method of preparation of the homogenates. The process is dependent on ATP and is enhanced by Mg ions but is inhibited by most other divalent ions. Incorporation of an amino acid generally is unaffected by the presence of other single amino acids, but a mixture of 17 other amino acids increased incorporation rates considerably. The enhanced glutamate incorporation is strongly inhibited by various amino acid antagonists. The most active incorporating material consists of cytoplasmic particles that can be isolated from the homogenates by differential centrifugation. Keywords
