Abstract
This case report of a hydatidiform mole showing X-ray evidence of pulmonary metastasis with subsequent regression emphasizes the inherent tendency of trophoblast to involute. Such involution almost always takes place in the placental site following normal pregnancy. It may occasionally take place in metastases of choriocarcinoma following the removal of the primary tumor or the main focus of metastatic tumor. The same mechanism appears to operate in causing regression of deported or "metastatic" chorionic villi whose presence in the lung is diagnosed by X-ray. Preliminary experimental work, using the Coons fluorescent antibody technique indicates that involution of trophoblast is not an antigen-antibody reaction. Keywords
