Abstract
Expansion of services for infants and toddlers, resulting from the enactment of P.L. 99–457, will necessitate new strategies for screening and identification of eligible infants. While traditional assessment tools will continue to play a role in determining eligibility, provisions of the law will introduce new aspects to the assessment process. New assessment measures may be needed to evaluate aspects of child and family functions that have not typically been a part of traditional assessment methods. Under P.L. 99–457, the family will play a new role in the assessment process. The family will participate collaboratively with early intervention staff in the assessment plan and in determining needs of the infant and family. Keywords
