Abstract
Although it is important to acknowledge that the virus affects a wide and growing number of people outside our communities, there is no doubt that it has had an unparalleled impact upon our particular attempts at self-help and organization … yet, at the same time, it has stimulated the growth of many more groups, often bringing lesbians and gay men together for the first time in a particular town or country. In some areas, it has meant the growth of identity and self-respect as lesbian, gay, or bisexual groups have demonstrated their ability to provide care and prevention services to fight the epidemic; sometimes it has even meant governmental recognition and funding. Keywords
