Abstract
Of seven fungicides tested, copper (as copper oxychloride in ‘Cuprox’) and the experimental fungicide benodanil gave the best control of poplar leaf rust. Trees treated with these fungicides retained a full canopy of leaves throughout the season, but untreated trees and those treated with less effective fungicides were severely defoliated. Tentative recommendations for the use of copper oxychloride on poplar shelter belts have been made. Keywords
