Abstract
It has been demonstrated previously that glutamine synthesis is defective in alloxan-diabetic rats. Forty-eight hr after paired rats were given alloxan, one was given insulin and one saline intravenously, to ascertain the effect of insulin on glutamine synthetase activity. Tests were conducted at 2-, 4- and 6-hr intervals after the insulin injection. The animals given insulin showed a definite increase in activity compared to the controls.
