Abstract
There has become increasingly more apparent in the medical literature an obstructive uropathic pathological entity which was first described by John K. Ormond1in 1948. Since then more than three dozen cases have been reported in the world literature with references by a wide array of various descriptive anatomical terms. These are inflammatory retroperitoneal process,1,16,27,30retroperitoneal fibrosis,2,17,22periureteric fibrosis,3,21,25periureteritis plastica,5,12chronic inflammation of fascia around ureters,6renal pseudosclerosis,7idiopathic nonspecific fibrosing retroperitonitis,8periureteral liposclerosis,9primary periureteritis,10periureteritis obliterans,14,36periureteral fascitis,15perirenal fascitis,15Gerota's fascitis,14periureteral lymphangitis,5adiponecrosis,11lipophage granuloma,11and a retroperitoneal inflammatory mass.34 Any investigator who has attempted to extract a comprehension of this protean disease is soon confronted with the same enigmata which no doubt impressed the author of the following: "Many a clinical reputation is buried beneath theKeywords
