Exchange Rates Influence Softwood Lumber Trade

Abstract
Exchange rates influence the softwood lumber trade between the United States and its trading partners. Recent trends in exchange rates for the United States, Canada, and Japan are consistent with an increase in the Canadian share of the U.S. domestic market, a reduction in U.S. exports to Japan, and a relative shift toward a larger Canadian share in the Japanese markets.
