Abstract
The water content of the spores and vegetative cells of Bacillus subtilis, Bac. megatherium and Bac. mycoides was detd. Using air dried cells as a basis the moisture contents of the 2 types of cells were almost identical. Moist weight is considered unsatisfactory as a basis for comparisons of the 2 types. Differences in water content in the 2 types of cells is evidently not the true explanation of the differences in heat resistance of the 2 forms. The possibility of a difference in the the ratio of free and bound water in the 2 cell types is suggested. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
