Abstract
An unusually high incidence of beta haemolytic streptococci — 30% of 114 pathogenic bacteria — in 73 limbs with leg ulcers has been ascribed to special bacteriological methods used to grow this organism in culture. This organism is responsible for the production of giant ulcers, case histories of which are presented. In view of the invasive propensities of this organism and its ability to destroy native or grafted skin, special search should be routinely made for its existence and appropriate antibiotic therapy instituted if clinically indicated. Keywords
