Abstract
When a thermal wave is switched on, it takes some time until phase and magnitude have reached their final values. Numerical calculations are presented for the transient behaviour when a sinusoidal or square-wave temperature modulation is applied to the surface of a homogenous semi-infinite solid. The influence of sample depth, time, and modulation form is discussed. Keywords
