Abstract
Na naphthaleneacetate (sodium NA) and Na 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetate applied as preharvest foliage sprays to carrots resulted in some sprout retardation in the harvested crop. Light applns. of sodium NA applied early in the season or heavy applns. 8-10 days before harvest were most effective. One gram of methyl NA per bushel of harvested carrots or turnips applied 4 weeks after they were placed at 50[degree]F gave satisfactory sprout inhibition. Sodium NA applied to the foliage of onions reduced sprouting of the bulbs in subsequent storage at 50[degree]F. Low concns. of sodium NA applied to the foliage of onions resulted in increased bulb yields.
