A Method for Collection of Intermittent Samples of Adrenal Vein Blood

Abstract
A method for collecting intermittent samples of adrenal vein blood from rats, cats and dogs is described. It consists of cannulating the left adrenolumbar vein after ligating the adrenal vein. The other end of the cannula is placed in the ipsilateral renal vein via a loop outside the body wall. Samples of blood can be obtained through this exteriorized segment. Flow through the "adreno-renal" shunt can be measured by timing the progress of a small bubble of air through a previously calibrated length of the loop.
