Abstract
Patches of refuse in which broken bones coincide with artifacts, suggest the existence by two millions years ago of a novel behavioral complex that involved food-sharing as a pivotal element. The model poses challenges with regard to ecological energetics and to the genetic mechanisms that established and intensified the system. Keywords
