The Interrelationship between Vitamin B6 and B12 Deficiencies in Rats

Abstract
Data are presented to show that feeding rats a diet deficient in vitamin B6 will result in the lowering of vitamin B12 reserve as manifested by the low B12 serum level and hepatic storage. Oversupply of vitamin B6 likewise lowers the vitamin B12 reserve in liver, perhaps due to increased metabolic requirement. Vitamin B12 deficiency in rats brings about an elevation of transaminase activity in serum, a measure commonly used to estimate the state of sufficiency of vitamin B6. The significance of the interplay between vitamins is discussed.
