Abstract
Atomic dipole polarizabilities and shielding factors of two‐electron ions (Z = 1 to 8) have been computed through first order in correlation. The Hartree polarizabilities converge somewhat faster than Hartree–Fock and a geometric approximation in the Hartree series is shown to hold. The shielding factors are derived in a triple‐perturbation expansion and the orbitals perturbed by the operator z / r 3 are shown to be of simple form. A geometric approximation is also shown to hold for β .Keywords
