A Comparison of Two Methods of Estimating Plasma Inorganic Iodine

Abstract
Two indirect methods for estimating the plasma inorganic iodine (PII), one based on the creatinine clearance, the other on isotope dilution, were compared in the same 19 subjects and were found to yield essentially the same results. The basis for this similarity of results was that, when measured in the same samples from the same individuals, plasma 132I/ urine 132I concentration ratios and plasma creatinine/urine creatinine concentration ratios were highly correlated, r = .905. The significance of these findings is discussed.
