Abstract
A medium is described which permits cultivation of N. meningitidis while selectively inhibiting most organisms constituting the normal flora of the nasopharynx, especially the saprophytic Neisseria. The use of Thayer-Martin selective medium in this study in-creased the detection of meningococcal carriers by 50 per cent and allowed direct typing from the primary isolation plates. Keywords
